Transforming Dharavi: Adani Group’s Initiative
Spacious Homes for Dharavikars
In a significant move, the Dharavi Redevelopment Project Pvt Ltd (DRPPL) has announced that eligible residential tenements in Dharavi will receive independent flats with a minimum area of 350 sqft each. This marks a 17% increase from previous housing standards, setting a new benchmark for slum redevelopment projects in Mumbai. The DRPPL, a joint venture between the Adani Group and the Maharashtra government, aims to elevate living conditions for Dharavikars through this initiative.
Enhanced Living Conditions
Under the redevelopment plan, eligible residential tenements, existing before January 1, 2000, will receive upgraded flats with separate kitchens and in-built independent toilets. These flats will prioritize natural light, ventilation, and hygiene, ensuring a secure and comfortable living environment for residents.
Vision for Dharavi’s Future
The DRPPL envisions Dharavi as a globally connected city, preserving its vibrant entrepreneurial culture while integrating commercial and industrial premises. Beyond housing, the project aims to provide economic opportunities, advanced education, healthcare facilities, and recreational amenities to residents, fostering a high-quality lifestyle in central Mumbai and Navi Dharavi.
Holistic Community Development
Community halls, public gardens, dispensaries, daycare centers, and recreational areas will complement residential units, promoting community engagement and well-being. Additionally, ineligible residential tenements will be accommodated under the proposed affordable rental housing policy, aligning with Maharashtra government norms.
Setting Global Standards
DRPPL’s endeavor to transform Dharavi, Asia’s largest slum, aims to establish new benchmarks in slum rehabilitation and urban rejuvenation. Drawing inspiration from best practices in countries like Singapore, the project emphasizes modern housing, infrastructure, and community development, guided by the principles of sustainability and inclusivity.
Partnership for Progress
Formed as a Special Purpose Vehicle between the Adani Group and the Maharashtra government, DRPPL is dedicated to reshaping Dharavi’s landscape and enhancing the lives of its residents. By integrating modern amenities with the essence of community living, the project seeks to create a model for sustainable urban development, setting new standards for the world to emulate.
