Securing a Landmark Order

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), a state-owned enterprise, has clinched a monumental deal to establish a 2,400 MW supercritical thermal power project (STPP) from the coal PSU NLC India Ltd. This order represents the largest power sector contract secured by BHEL through competitive bidding, signaling a significant milestone for the company.

Engineering Marvel in Jharsuguda, Odisha

The project, awarded through International Competitive Bidding (ICB), entails the construction of a greenfield power plant on an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) basis at Jharsuguda in Odisha. BHEL will undertake the comprehensive EPC contract, encompassing the engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, and commissioning of essential equipment.

Cutting-Edge Technology

The scope of work includes the installation of boilers, turbines, generators, and auxiliary systems for the 3×800 MW thermal power project. Notably, the project will feature boilers equipped with biomass co-firing capability and advanced pollution control equipment, ensuring high efficiency and environmental compliance. The ambitious endeavor aims to be operational within 64 months and will significantly bolster the nation’s base load electricity capacity.

Nationwide Collaboration

BHEL’s extensive manufacturing network across Trichy, Haridwar, Hyderabad, Jhansi, Bengaluru, Ranipet, Bhopal, Rudrapur, and Varanasi plants will spearhead the production of major equipment for the project. Additionally, the company’s power sector – southern region will oversee the civil works, as well as the erection and commissioning of the equipment, underscoring a collaborative effort to realize this ambitious undertaking.

Strengthening Bonds with NLCIL

With a longstanding partnership with NLC India Ltd (NLCIL), BHEL has played a pivotal role in installing a significant portion, amounting to 3,590 MW, of the coal/lignite-based power stations operated by the utility. This latest venture further cements the robust collaboration between the two entities, symbolizing a shared commitment to advancing India’s energy infrastructure.
