Discovering the Perfect Eco-Friendly House Slippers

My apartment holds a special place in my heart for various reasons, one being the nighttime drop in temperature during winter.

Despite my partner’s complaints about the cold, I embrace it. To me, a slightly chilly home at night, around 65 degrees, is ideal. This perspective stems from my grandmother’s practice of lowering the thermostat at night to save money and energy, a habit she developed during the Depression era. Apart from the financial benefits, reducing the thermostat also aligns with environmental conservation efforts, minimizing energy consumption while we’re snug under the covers. While I have limited control over my apartment’s temperature, which relies on radiators connected to the building’s boiler, I find solace in snuggling under the covers to escape the cold.

However, this cozy setup isn’t complete without a pair of house slippers to slip into before making my morning tea. And now, I’m thrilled to have found the perfect morning companions: Chilote House Slippers.

Embracing Eco-Friendly Comfort

These slippers epitomize hygge – modest, cozy, and impeccably crafted. Made from locally sourced upcycled salmon skin leather and natural Patagonia sheep’s wool, they are handcrafted by independent female artisans in Patagonia through a cooperative system, providing them with dignified work conditions outside conventional factories. Each pair arrives neatly rolled in an eco-friendly, reusable shipping tube without any plastic, accompanied by extra wool thread and salmon skin for personalization or repairs, and a QR code offering insights into the artisan group responsible for their creation.

I’ve been slipping into them every morning, and if I’m working from home, I often forget to take them off! The thick wool pattern feels delightful against the soles of my feet, while the salmon skin ensures a non-slip grip. Although they are already comfortable, they are expected to further mold to the shape of my feet over time. Additionally, their packable nature makes them ideal for weekend getaways or cabin stays, enhancing comfort wherever you go.

Rarely do I declare something a must-have, but every woman living beyond the equator deserves a pair of quality slippers. And when those slippers are sustainably crafted and support vulnerable female artisans, they become an essential addition to any home.
