Nestled in the serene beach town of Hayama, southeast of Kamakura on the Miura Peninsula, stands a 55-year-old apartment awaiting transformation. The owners, seeking a bright and low-maintenance home, approached ROOVICE with their vision. Situated within a building boasting expansive windows overlooking a lush garden, the apartment held promise for a revitalized living space.
Bright and Easy-to-Manage Design
ROOVICE embarked on a mission to infuse the interior with luminosity, opting for bright colors complemented by lauan accents. PVC flooring sheets were strategically chosen for their durability and ease of maintenance, offering a seamless solution for most areas. Recognizing the impact of Hayama’s humid climate on the old wallpaper, the team applied diatomaceous earth to regulate humidity and preserve the walls.
Creating Airy Living Spaces
The kitchen, once confined within a small room, underwent a transformative redesign. By eliminating partition walls and integrating it with the living room, ROOVICE crafted an open, light-filled environment that seamlessly connects with the outdoors. A sleek stainless countertop harmonizes with custom lauan plywood storage units, offering a blend of functionality and aesthetics.
Promoting Family Connectivity
With a focus on fostering familial bonds, ROOVICE designed a custom-made desk spanning over 5 meters along the living room wall. This communal workspace serves as a hub for family activities, encouraging shared moments of work, study, and leisure. Lauan storage cabinets in the dining area and versatile white tile counters further enhance the apartment’s functionality and visual appeal.
