Rethinking Beijing FUNS iTown H9 Office Design: A Fusion of Creativity and Connectivity

Situated in Gaobeidian, Beijing, the H9 Building of FUNS iTown plays host to Weestar Studio and XINGHUI CREATIONS, fostering a collaborative environment for creativity and innovation. Let’s explore how CPLUS Architects reimagined this space to embrace its surroundings and facilitate dynamic interactions.

Embracing the Passing Landscape

Inspired by the park’s rich historical context and the rhythmic passage of trains along the adjacent freight tracks, the design encapsulates the spirit of the “Continuous Landscape.” By erasing traditional boundaries and integrating elements of industrial heritage, the office environment emerges as a vibrant hub for imagination and collaboration.

Dialogue: Inside and Outside

CPLUS Architects embarked on a transformation journey, redefining the interface between indoor and outdoor realms. Opening up the facade to welcome natural light and scenic garden views, they crafted a seamless transition between the interior workspace and the surrounding environment. The south-facing terrace, now adorned with transparent glass panels, offers unobstructed vistas of passing trains, fostering moments of relaxation amidst the bustling urban landscape.

Dialogue: Vertical Spaces

Through strategic interventions like voids and window openings, the design blurs the distinction between floors, fostering fluidity and interconnectedness. The introduction of an inner courtyard, coupled with the removal of the second-floor slab, creates a cascading spatial sequence that blurs the boundaries between indoors and outdoors. A lightweight staircase traversing the open office area enhances accessibility and visual connectivity, symbolizing the synergy between the two organizations.

Dialogue: Blank-leaving

Blank walls on the west facade serve as dynamic canvases for showcasing art collections and creative designs, reinforcing the companies’ identity and fostering brand recognition. These adaptable surfaces double as backdrops for photo shoots, injecting versatility and creativity into everyday workspaces.

In essence, the Beijing FUNS iTown H9 Office Design transcends conventional office paradigms, embracing its context to foster collaboration, creativity, and connectivity. Through thoughtful dialogue between interior and exterior realms, as well as innovative spatial configurations, it emerges as a vibrant ecosystem where ideas flourish and boundaries dissolve.
