Redefining Space: The Story of Na Rade House

A Small Plot, A Big Vision

Situated in the historic Old Town of Bratislava, the Na Rade House project presented a unique challenge: to design a family home for a young family of four on a relatively small plot of land near Horský park. Despite its size, the project aimed to harmonize with the surrounding context while maximizing living space for the residents.

Embracing the Context

The site originally housed two buildings: a single-story family house in the upper part of the plot and a brick garden house in the lower part. With the existing structures sharing common walls and defining property boundaries, the architects faced the task of integrating new construction while respecting the site’s history.

Balancing Preservation and Innovation

Amid debates about preserving the original buildings, the architects undertook a thorough analysis of the site’s structural integrity and regulatory framework. Ultimately, they opted for new construction while paying homage to the original design. This decision allowed for the creation of a modern living space with minimal impact on the environment.

Reimagining Tradition

The design concept focused on preserving the scale and character of the original development while optimizing spatial efficiency. By reimagining the footprint of the original buildings, the architects were able to create a layout that seamlessly integrated with the surrounding landscape.

A Harmonious Blend of Old and New

Na Rade House stands as a testament to the architects’ ability to balance tradition with innovation. By embracing the site’s history and context, while embracing modern design principles, the project demonstrates how thoughtful architecture can enrich both the built environment and the lives of its inhabitants.
